Pockets loved school. He loved the playground, the colorful books, and even the lunchroom chatter. But one thing made him sad – he noticed some of the children whispering and giggling whenever a new boy, Tony, walked into class.
Tony had bright green eyes, the kind that sparkled like leaves in the sun. But some kids didn’t see that. Instead, they called them “weird” and laughed behind his back.
Pockets felt a little tug in his heart. He didn’t like seeing anyone teased. “Why are they laughing at him?” he wondered.
One sunny afternoon, Pockets found Tony sitting alone under a tree, staring at the ground. His shoulders were slumped, and he didn’t even notice the swings or the soccer game.
Pockets took a deep breath and walked over. “Hi, I’m Pockets! Want to play?”
Tony looked up slowly. “I… I don’t think anyone likes my eyes,” he whispered. “They call them ugly.”
Pockets blinked. “Ugly? But your eyes are the brightest green I’ve ever seen!”
Tony gave a small, doubtful smile. “Really?”
“Really!” Pockets said. “Green like the first leaves in spring, green like magic. I think they’re amazing!”
The next day, Pockets had an idea. During art class, he asked everyone to draw a picture of their favorite part of nature. Some drew trees, some flowers, some the sun. But Pockets handed Tony a blank sheet and whispered, “Draw your eyes.”
Tony hesitated but then started drawing. He colored them the brightest green, just like they were in real life. When he finished, Pockets held the picture up for the class to see.
“Look!” Pockets said. “Tony’s eyes are beautiful. They’re like leaves sparkling in sunlight!”
A few kids giggled at first, but then they stopped. They looked closer. And slowly, they realized Pockets was right. The green eyes weren’t strange – they were wonderful!
From that day on, Tony wasn’t teased anymore. The kids learned something important: just because something looks different doesn’t mean it’s bad. Sometimes, the things that make someone different are the most beautiful parts of them.
Tony smiled brighter than ever before. And Pockets felt warm inside, knowing he had helped someone see their own magic.
And every time someone whispered about differences, Pockets would smile and say, “The most special things in life are sometimes the ones you least expect!”
