Every Saturday morning, Pockets would wake up early, just as the first light of the sun peeked through his window. He always felt a rush of excitement about the day ahead, with the promise of playing outside with his friends or diving into his favorite video games. But before he could enjoy any of that, there was one important task he had to take care of first: his chores.
“Chores first, fun later,” Pockets would remind himself, already stretching and yawning. He knew that if he didn’t get his work done, the day would slip away, and he’d end up feeling grumpy. Plus, he wanted to enjoy his free time without thinking about the mess he’d left behind.
First on his list were the daily chores in his room. Pockets glanced around at the toys, books, and clothes scattered everywhere. His room, after a week of playing and studying, was a little chaotic. He started by picking up his toys and stacking his books neatly. “A tidy room is a happy room,” Pockets said aloud, feeling the first signs of satisfaction as he made his bed and fluffed his pillows. He even folded the clothes that had piled up on his chair, looking proud as the room slowly began to look more like the peaceful place he loved.
Next came his homework. Pockets pulled out his books and sat at his desk, determined to make quick work of it. He always tackled the math problems first, because they felt like puzzles. Pockets loved puzzles—each number and equation felt like a little mystery waiting to be solved. After finishing the math, he moved on to his reading assignment. While reading wasn’t his favorite, Pockets understood its importance. “Just a little more, and then it’s playtime,” he said, focusing on the words in front of him, knowing the end was near.
Once his homework was finished, it was time for the weekly chores around the house. Pockets swept the floor, wiped down the tables, and even watered the plants in the living room. While these tasks weren’t as exciting as soccer or video games, Pockets didn’t mind them. His parents always said that helping out around the house was a way to show love and care for the family, and Pockets liked that idea. It felt good to be part of the team, making their home a cleaner and happier place.
When everything was done, Pockets stood back and admired his work. His room was clean, his homework was finished, and the house was looking neat and tidy. “All done!” he cheered to himself, and with that, he rushed outside to meet his friends. They played soccer in the warm sunlight, running and laughing until the sky turned a soft pink. Afterward, he settled in for some video game time, his heart full of joy and satisfaction.
As the day came to an end, Pockets reflected on everything he had accomplished. He realized that getting his chores done first not only made everything feel smoother but also made his playtime even better. He felt proud of himself, knowing that he’d earned his fun. Plus, there was nothing left to worry about. It was the perfect balance of work and play, and Pockets couldn’t wait for next Saturday to do it all over again.
