One sunny morning, Pockets woke up extra early. Today was a very important day – he had his first job at Mr. Tinker’s Toy Workshop! Pockets packed his bright blue backpack, straightened his pink bowtie, and ran to the train station.
But just as he reached the platform, he saw the train whistle blow and the doors closing. “Oh no!” Pockets shouted, sprinting with all his might. But it was too late – the train pulled away without him.
Pockets slumped onto a bench, feeling his stomach twist. “I can’t believe it,” he muttered. “I’m going to be late for my first day! What a disaster!”
He watched the tracks in silence, his heart sinking. Around him, people hurried by, catching their trains, chatting, or reading newspapers. Everything seemed so normal… except his morning.
After a few minutes, Pockets decided to make the best of it. He bought a little pastry from the station bakery and sat down. “Well,” he sighed, “maybe I can find another way to get there.”
Just then, a man in a conductor’s uniform came running down the platform. “Excuse me!” the man called. “Did you see that train? It had an accident just a few miles ahead. Everyone is safe, but it’s going to take hours to clear the tracks!”
Pockets’ eyes widened. His heart, which had been heavy with disappointment, suddenly felt light. “Wait… I… I missed it?” he whispered.
“Yes!” the conductor said, smiling. “Sometimes missing a train is the best thing that can happen. You might have been on that train if you’d been on time!”
Pockets laughed, a mixture of relief and amazement bubbling out. “Everything happens for a reason,” he said softly to himself. “Even when it feels disappointing at first, maybe it’s protecting you… or giving you something better.”
By the afternoon, Pockets had taken a different route to the workshop. He arrived safely, a little tired but happy. Mr. Tinker greeted him warmly and showed him how to make toy trains, little wind-up animals, and colorful puzzles. Pockets worked carefully and learned quickly, realizing that sometimes what seems like a problem is just the start of an adventure.
That night, Pockets wrote in his notebook:
“I missed the train today. At first, I was sad and upset. But later, I realized that missing it saved me from danger. Life has a way of working things out, even when we don’t understand it at first. Everything happens for a reason!”
From that day on, whenever something didn’t go Pockets’ way, he would pause, take a deep breath, and remember the train that wasn’t meant to be.
