One sunny afternoon, Pockets was walking home from school, his backpack bouncing with every step. He hummed a little tune, thinking about his class test tomorrow. “I really need to study for math,” he said to himself, adjusting his bright red bowtie.
Just then, a flyer floated past him and landed at his feet. He picked it up and read: “National Gamer Night Contest! Win a trip to New York!”
Pockets’ eyes grew wide. A trip to New York? That sounded amazing! He could see the bright lights, the tall buildings, and maybe even meet some famous gamers. But then he remembered – his math test was tomorrow.
He sighed, rubbing his curly black hair. “What should I do?” he murmured.
At home, Pockets sat on his bed with his math book open. Numbers and equations stared back at him. He tried to concentrate, but every time he looked out the window, he imagined himself playing the video game contest. The temptation was strong, and it whispered, “Just one day… who cares about a test?”
Mukur, his best friend, peeked in. “Hey, Pockets! What’s up?” she asked, noticing his worried face.
“I have a choice,” Pockets explained. “I can either study for my math test or enter the gamer contest. The winner goes to New York!”
Mukur sat down beside him. “Wow, that’s exciting! But… your test is tomorrow, right?”
“Yes,” Pockets nodded, biting his lip. “If I play, I might win a trip… but if I don’t study, I’ll fail my test.”
Mukur smiled gently. “Pockets, think about what really matters. A contest is fun, but your learning is forever. You can play games anytime, but passing your test shows you can make smart choices.”
Pockets thought about her words. He looked at his math book again, then at the flyer. The temptation of New York was strong, but he could feel a little voice inside him saying, “What’s more important?”
After a long pause, Pockets took a deep breath. “I’ll study first,” he decided. “If I do well, I’ll feel proud, and maybe next time I can try the contest without worrying.”
That evening, Pockets studied hard. He worked through each problem carefully, taking small breaks and staying focused. By the time the sun went down, he had finished everything on his study plan. He felt tired, yes, but also happy and proud.
The next morning, Pockets walked to school feeling confident. The test was challenging, but he remembered all the strategies he had practiced. When the results came back, Pockets had scored the highest in his class!
Later, when he saw the news about the National Gamer Night Contest, he smiled. “I’ll enter next time,” he said, “but right now, I know I made the right choice.”
From that moment, Pockets remembered how important it was to focus on what truly matters. Whenever a tempting distraction appeared, he would pause, think, and make the choice that would help him grow. And though he still loved games, he never forgot the happiness that comes from doing the right thing.
