Today is a great day for Pockets to be happy. He is now able to put what he learned from school into practice.
From his ABCs and 123s as a kid to learning about life, going to the library, and helping his mother around the house by washing dishes and doing his chores—like washing clothes and cleaning his room—Pockets had been preparing for this moment.
Yes, even cleaning his room. So one day, when he is on his own, he will know how to keep a clean house. Yes, even your mother is a teacher. Mom is happy when you keep your room clean. That shows that you respect your parents.
Pockets had a job interview as a dishwasher with Mr. Richard.
Mr. Richard was wearing a shirt and tie. Pockets was impressed with Mr. Richard’s attire.
So Mr. Richard started asking Pockets question after question about his job experience washing dishes. He even had to do a math test, like he was back in school, and was asked to read labels, match colors, and measure sizes. Pockets thought, “Man, I am glad I learned the matching game and how to count and write my name.”
Pockets even raised his hand to ask Mr. Richard a question. He remembered what Miss Linda’s story was saying.
Pockets didn’t know that the whole time in school, he was learning about life and what he wanted to be when he grows up.
Pockets got the job, and he asked Mr. Richard if he had ever been in an interview.
Mr. Richard smiled and said, “Son, I was in your shoes at one time. And guess what? We all go through the process. It all starts from our ABCs and 123s.”
Pockets left the interview with a big smile, knowing that every small lesson, every task, every challenge he had faced had prepared him for this moment. He learned that life is a journey, and every step, no matter how small, is important.
