After Pockets played basketball with his new friends, he thought about making more new friends. So, he decided to go to the Children’s Hospital to visit and make new friends. He knows that other kids get lonely and stay in one place and cannot go anywhere for fun. Watching TV, playing games, eating, or just staying in bed all day, every day is boring. So, Pockets filled his pockets with gifts for his new soon-to-be friends at the Children’s Hospital. “I hope this will help make the children feel better, knowing that they have friends too,” Pockets said to himself.
Even though Pockets doesn’t know them by name, he knows how it feels to be in the hospital with nothing fun to do. Pockets knows that he is not a real doctor, but he has a different kind of medicine. The medicine that Pockets has doesn’t have an aftertaste, but it’s kind of addictive. He has laughter, jokes, and silly tricks. He has a funny way of laughing. He also has a friend named Dr. Tom. Dr. Tom loves to make the kids feel better and get better. He retrains them to walk and talk, and other things that he does to make sure that they are 100 percent. Some take a long time to get better, and some recover right away.
One busy day at the hospital, Dr. Tom needed an assistant because his nurse assistant was in traffic trying to make it to work. He didn’t know what to do, so he asked Pockets if he could help by making sure people sign in and wait to be called by name. So, Pockets told everyone to clap. Everyone was clapping, then he started doing tricks – walking on his hands, doing cartwheels, jumping, and flips. He was putting on a show for everyone, so everyone started clapping more.
Dr. Tom was wondering what all the commotion was about. He came out from the back, and everyone was enjoying themselves. Dr. Tom started laughing as he called in the next patient, and so Pockets became the unofficial assistant at the hospital, bringing joy and entertainment to patients and staff alike. His silly tricks and laughter helped to lighten the mood and make the hospital experience more bearable for everyone.
From that day on, Pockets would visit the hospital regularly, always putting a smile on the faces of those he met.
